EU Issues Travel Alerts for Nationals in Mexico Amid Surge in Violence
The UK Foreign Office urged British nationals to remain indoors and avoid non-essential travel after “serious security incidents” were reported on Feb. 22 in the western state of Jalisco","mexico"], including Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, following a law-enforcement operation in the municipality of Tapalpa. Authorities in Puerto Vallarta warned residents to stay indoors and noted that routes to airports may be blocked.
Belgium’s Embassy in Mexico similarly advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel in Jalisco, warning that highway closures could occur and urging travelers to follow reliable local media for updates.
Italy’s Embassy reported roadblocks, shootings, and other violent incidents in Jalisco, Guanajuato, and Michoacan, recommending that Italian nationals, residents, and tourists limit non-essential movement. Citizens were also advised to avoid gatherings, stay clear of security operations, and closely follow official instructions.
France issued comparable guidance, urging its nationals in Jalisco—particularly in Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, and Tapalpa—to exercise extreme caution and remain indoors while security operations continue.
