Crematorium Horror: Police Discover 381 Embalmed Bodies in Mexico
Instead of undergoing cremation, the bodies were haphazardly piled across several rooms within the facility. Eloy Garcia, spokesperson for the Chihuahua state prosecutor’s office, confirmed the grim finding to media.
"Preliminarily, we have 381 bodies that were deposited irregularly in the crematorium, which were not cremated," Garcia stated. "Instead of ashes, relatives were given ‘other material.’"
Initially, investigators responded to reports of just 60 bodies on site, but the figure surged as the probe advanced. Garcia attributed the grave incident to the "carelessness and irresponsibility" of the crematorium’s operators.
"You can’t take in more than you can process," Garcia remarked. "Every such business is aware of its daily cremation capacity."
While one of the crematorium’s administrators has voluntarily turned himself in to authorities, investigators are still working to determine whether any of the deceased had been victims of violent crime.
Mexico’s forensic systems have long faced severe strain, a challenge worsened by the nation’s high homicide rates, understaffed teams, and persistent budgetary constraints.
